Kim Jong Un orders military readiness for an attack on the United States with a map of American targets in the background.
The North Korean news agency released photos of Kim Jong Un signing a military order to prepare for an attack against the U.S. — from Hawaii to Washington, D.C. Experts doubt the plan reflects a real threat
North Korea’s newbie dictator ratcheted up the tough-guy rhetoric Friday, vowing to “settle accounts” with American “imperialists” and staging a photo shoot where he signed off on a “U.S. Mainland Strike Plan.”
Kim had in his sites U.S. bases in the Pacific, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Hawaii, and — oddly enough — Austin, Tex., if the map that appeared on state-run media was to be believed.

But Kim didn’t put a bull’s-eye on the Big Apple — not that New Yorkers should be nervous.

The supreme leader of North Korea sits near a map marking the location of the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet.
Meanwhile, North Korea has entered a “state of war” with neighboring South Korea, according to a report today from the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Pentagon strategists are convinced Kim is trying to burnish his bad guy bonafides with his own people — and soften up the South Koreans and Washington for possible direct negotiations — by rattling his saber as long and as loudly as possible.
Kim, who at age 30 is just a child by the standard of world leaders, began banging the war drums again after the U.S. sent a pair of B-2 bombers, which are capable of dropping nuclear weapons, to South Korea for military drills.
A close-up of the provocative photo shows that Kim’s map marks Washington, D.C., Hawaii, San Diego and Austin, Texas as targets.

But somebody in the propaganda department apparently failed to airbrush out a bandage on Kim’s left arm — clear evidence of mortality in a dictator with aspirations of being deified like his dad, Kim Jong Il.
As part of Kim’s charade, soldiers across North Korea covered their jeeps and tanks with camouflage netting and posted newly painted placards declaring “Death to the U.S. Imperialists.”
It will be 60 years this July since North Korea and its closest ally, China, signed an armistice with the U.S. that suspended the bloody Korean War. Since then, North Korea has become an isolated, totalitarian state led by a tiny elite that has forged ahead with plans to develop nuclear weapons — while starving its own subjects into submission.
