Arianna Huffington trashed rented Chelsea loft, leaving gouged walls and a bloodied mattress, claims lawsuit

Internet news queen Arianna Huffington partied so hard in her rented Chelsea loft she left it looking like a frat house, claims a lawsuit filed Monday by the furious landlord.
Filmmaker Eric Steel claims Huffington - president and top editor of the Huffington Post Media Group - promised she'd be the sole occupant of the sprawling, white-walled loft, custom designed by his famous architect father. But instead, she used the posh pad for frequent parties and allowed her daughters to crash there with friends - leaving gouged wood floors, candle stains the steel window seats, and even a bloodied mattress.
Huffington first leased the 4,400-square-foot, two-bedroom loft from May 2011, says the lawsuit.
By the time she left in Jan. 2013 - paying $32,000 per month in rent - Steel claims virtually all of the walls were "gouged, stained and otherwise damaged," the bathtub was covered in stains, kitchen cabinets were broken, and the steel window seats were stained by candles, wet glasses and cosmetics.
And a custom-made dining room table designed by Steel's father, Charles Gwathmey, was so badly scratched "it had to be crated, hoisted out of the apartment and repaired by the original manufacturer," according to papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
He says she made so many copies of the elevator key that the lock had to be replaced. So did the blood-stained mattress, dishwater racks, stove knobs and a refrigerator drawer.
Steel said the repairs cost $275,000 and took almost three months.
"Every single claim in this suit is false except the square footage and the address," Huffington shot back in a prepared statement, calling the lawsuit an attempt to "extort more money from me by making ludicrous claims"
She said Steele "happily renewed the lease twice and visited the apartment multiple times," but has refused to return her $93,000 deposit.
